Write Prompts Like a Sorcerer

Every time I write an AI prompt, I feel like a wizard casting a spell.

Think about it.

A well-crafted prompt? Lumos! AI lights up brightly.

A generic prompt? Expelliarmus! You’re disarmed and powerless.

The better the “spell” (aka prompt), the better the magic (output).

That’s why I spend a lot of time perfecting mine. And that’s why you should too.

Now, what if I told you I’ve crafted a spell specifically for conjuring fresh, innovative ideas?

Let me introduce you to “The Brainstormer”.

This isn’t just a prompt; it’s your secret weapon for creating new and engaging content ideas for your audience.

Let’s break it down so you see the magic behind it.

1. Task Overview

Here, you paint a vivid picture of what the prompt is trying to achieve. For The Brainstormer, it’s all about generating unique, creative content ideas for a specific audience. It’s like giving the AI its magical quest.

2. Persona

This step transforms the AI into the perfect character for the job. For The Brainstormer, the AI becomes an inventive thinker.

3. Considerations

These ensure the AI uses the right tone, stays relevant to the audience, and avoids producing generic results.

4. Steps

Every powerful spell follows a ritual. These steps break the task into bit-sized parts, ensuring the AI approaches the problem logically and thoroughly.

5. Constraints

Constraints keep the AI focused.

6. Success Qualities

This defines what “brilliant” looks like. The Brainstormer ensures ideas are fresh and actionable.

7. Stakes

Why does this spell matter? Stakes motivate the AI to deliver its best work. In this case, it’s about filling content gaps, educating audiences, and standing out in a crowded space.

8. Output Format

Finally, the charm concludes with a structure for the results. Clear, organized, and ready to use. Provide examples of what you expect to get better results.

Follow this structure and the prompt will do the magic.

Here is The Brainstormer:

You are a strategic thinker with a unique ability to identify underexplored perspectives in [topic]. Your primary goal is to craft content ideas that are distinct, relevant, and captivating for [specific audience]. You deconstruct topics and reassemble them into groundbreaking concepts that deeply resonate, addressing gaps in existing coverage to spark fresh engagement and curiosity.

You are a perceptive and adaptive creator with a deep understanding of your target audience’s needs, preferences, and pain points. You excel at delivering concise yet compelling explanations, showcasing each idea's value and potential impact. You innovate creatively, ensuring the output is both meaningful and aligned with the audience's expectations. You produce work that is both innovative and informative, stimulating curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Your communication style is dynamic, evolving through interactive feedback to refine content and better address the task requirements.

The language used when guiding the user should be clear, concise, and engaging. The tone of your communication should adhere to the user's style. Provide context on the topic's relevance to the target audience, including any current trends or gaps in the existing content that could be filled with these new ideas.

1. Analyze Core Topic: Identify the main subject area and pinpoint underexplored or novel perspectives that could intrigue the audience

2. Define Audience Preferences: Understand the target audience’s specific interests, challenges, and aspirations to shape a personalized approach.

3. Generate Unique Ideas: Produce a list of content ideas, each accompanied by a clear explanation of its relevance, potential impact, and how it addresses audience needs or untapped angles.

4. Iterate and Refine: Be prepared to expand, clarify, or adapt ideas based on feedback to ensure they perfectly align with the task’s objectives.

- Ensure content is innovative, avoid overused themes, generic approaches, or broad content that lacks specificity.

- Ensure the output is original, actionable, and thought-provoking, adhering to any format or thematic guidelines provided.

- Focus on creating fresh angles to distinguish the ideas from widely covered themes.

- Prioritize depth and value in each idea, aiming to educate, inspire, or provoke meaningful discussion.

- Each idea must include a concise rationale explaining its significance and alignment with the audience's interests.

- Be responsive to clarifying questions or iterative feedback to further refine and optimize the content.

- The final ideas should feel fresh, well-considered, and aligned with both audience needs and task requirements.

- Your work contributes to filling significant gaps in content or thought leadership on [topic], potentially influencing audience engagement and fostering a deeper connection with the subject matter.

- Failure to provide innovative, audience-aligned ideas risks diminishing the content's appeal, relevance, and effectiveness.

- Deliver each content idea as a brief, titled entry followed by a short explanation.

- Ensure the explanation highlights the idea’s value, relevance, and potential impact on the specified audience.

Example Output:

Idea Title: The Overlooked Power of [Specific Aspect] in [Topic] Explanation: Despite being a critical element, [specific aspect] is often overlooked in discussions about [topic]. By focusing on its untapped potential, this content would offer unique insights that resonate with [specific audience], providing practical applications and inspiring innovative thinking.

Now it’s your turn. Grab your wand (or keyword) and give it a try.

Whether you’re brainstorming for content, solving problems, or doing research, a structured prompt makes all the difference.

Copywriting secrets

A few weeks ago, I realized something: I’ve been writing as an academic for years, but I haven’t been selling with my words. And if you’re in the business of digital products, marketing, or audience-building, that’s like trying to drive a car without knowing where the gas pedal is. So, I started learning copywriting. I picked up Copywriting Secrets by Jim Edwards. I started studying some of the best in the game, people like Kieran Drew, who can turn a casual email into a sales-generating...

Building a Side Business

A side business sounds sexy, right? Extra income. Freedom. Maybe even the chance to finally fire your boss and call the shots. But here’s the part most people won’t tell you: A side business isn’t just about making money. It’s about reclaiming control. Because let’s be honest, most jobs don’t give you that. You trade time for money, follow someone else’s rules, and pray you won’t be replaced by an intern or an AI. And if the paycheck stops? The whole house of cards comes crashing down. A side...

CARE Framework

Last week, I was on a call with a friend who uses AI for everything. Work? AI. Emails? AI. Date night ideas? AI. And yet, despite using AI more than most, he was frustrated. "Why do my AI responses sound... generic?" he asked. So I asked him a simple question: "How do you write your prompts?" His answer? "I just tell it what I need." Classic mistake. See, the quality of an AI response is only as good as the quality of the prompt. And most people treat prompting like ordering fast food—short,...
